The story behind Kokwaado

About two hundred and Seventy Eight(278) years ago, 1691, Opanyin Nana Kwansah of Ahene Akyeremadze Abradze Family came to settle at Asenadze(Ohoado) from Komenda, because he was a good farmer he had sufficlent land to till. Nana Sarpong of Abradze Fanily too came and settled at Jukwa, some years later, there was a heavy down pour of rain causing the river ohoa to overflood its banks and the surrounding areas. This disturbed Nana Kwansah and his people at Asenadze, They therefore moved from Asenadze to Kokwaado, which was free Iron the flood. Later, Nana Sarpong to join Nana Kwansah at Kokwaado. and his people too moved from Jukwa.

When Nana Kwansah died, his brother Kwamena Mensah became Obusua Panyin of Ahene Akyeremadze Abradze family, there was no Chief at Kolwaado Opanyin Kwamena Mensah took the stool to his Sister Nana Ama Egyapa for safe keeping at Komenda. It was in 1916 when Opanyin Fosu was Installed as a Chief at Kokwaado. Then the stool was brought to Kokwaado from Komenda to perform necessary customs.

Chief Fosu destooled himself fron the throne of Kokwaado. About twenty two (22)years later. In this case, Opanyin Kweku Menuah of Ahene Akyeremadze Abradze family was appointed to take care of tbe stool, and the stool was taken back to Komenda for save-keeping, At the same time Opanyin Kobina Narkowah became the haad of Ahene Akyeremadze Abradze family, and Obabanyin Opanyin Kweui Ackon of Anana family was appointed to take charge of the affairs of the town, and Opanyin Kow Mensah of Nana Sarpong’s family became Oman Panyin of Kokwaado.


When Opanyin Kweky Mensah died, the people of Kokwaado asked panyin Kobina Narkowah Head of Ahene Akyeremadze Abradze family) for a new Chief, Opanyin Narkowah gave them his Nephew by name Kofi Ntoh who was fit and strong to be installed a Chief® The people of Kokwaado liked him very much. In April, 15th 1949 Kofi Ntoh was installed a Chief at Kokwaado and named his stool Nana Kwansah II. During the time of installation Opanyin Kow Mensah(Senior) of the same family(Ahene Akyeremadze Abradze) went to Komenda with his son Kobina Beenuyie to bring the stool back to Kokwaado for customary rights. And as long as the Chief remains in Kokwaado, the stool
never taken to komenda again.
